Introduction
Bede Films first feature 'Young Hearts Run Free' was Written, Directed and Produced by me, Andy Mark Simpson. Looking back it was a pretty crazy project (people told me that at the time but I ploughed through anyway) with huge obstacles to overcome; but we made it. I then got it out there and developed self-distribution methods which saw it win some festival awards, get national reviews and be screened in cinemas around the UK and USA. Now, the film isn't perfect, and I'm also definitely not a distribution expert. The aim of these articles isn't to give you a definitive answer, or to replace the great books out there by people who actually know what they are doing (see Jon Reiss, Living Spirit Pictures, Raindance) but instead my aim is just to share with you my personal journey and examples from writing, directing, producing and distributing (internationally!) 'Young Hearts Run Free'. It's got the things that worked well and also all the bits I got wrong! In addition there are general tips and things I've learned which we can all apply. |
